coastal butterflies

Inspiration for this mounted butterfly art comes from a new favorite blog of mine mondocherry They used hues of grey which i love..i love love love grey!..i have about twenty grey t-shirts and about three sets of yoga pants that are all in varying greys..its such a cozy color! especially charcoal grey..i would love to have a room with dark charcoal grey paint and white white trim! ..so back to the project... i tried to select a background for my butterflies that was a dark greyish blue.. i wanted to do a grey and yellow scheme but couldn't find any yellow that wasn't school bus yellow at the craft stores.. i'm really attracted to grey + yellow and grey + blues right now...for the print.. i adored mondocherry's use of my favorite book "Anne of Green Gables".. wanting to keep my beloved book intact..i cut up a French Quebec City magazine instead...it adds sentiment from our honeymoon and provided a great way to re-purpose a momento... the magazine had Victorian photos of sightseers on the boardwalk in front of the Chateau Frontenac where we stayed in Quebec City...i cut a template freehand of a butterfly..then traced and cut the twelve butterfly shapes from scrapbook paper, card stock, and the magazine.. i glued everything with a scotch tape runner which made the project easy and quick.. this project is easy..fun..and gets me in the mood for spring! time to take down the Christmas decor and back to decorating this newlywed nest in vintage coastal blues and neutrals...now watch us have a snowstorm ..haha

midnight snack

Christmas is over..time to play with new toys!  i have been wanting a cake pop maker ever since i tried Starbucks' birthday cake cake pops..which had become a weekly occurance! ...i was surprised to find out this little babycakes cake pop maker can make donut holes as well.. i tried the sour cream donuts recipe off their website found here ...and the vanilla glaze recipe found in the recipe book that came with the maker....the instructions said to fill the wells with two tablespoons of batter.. the first batch overflowed..i filled it a little less on the second and third batches and those turned out better..trial and error... i glazed them and sprinkled with powdered sugar.. they reminded me more of a pancake or funnel cake than a donut.. but very very tasty! and addicting! the babycakes cake pop maker comes with a fork tool and a syringe for fillings.. here is the recipe for the vanilla glaze:

Ingredients:
1/4 cup melted butter
1 1/4 cups confectioner's sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 to 2 1/2 tbsp hot water

Directions:
Combine melted butter and confectioner's sugar, stirring until well blended. Stir in vanilla. Blend in 2 tbsp hot water and stir until smooth. Add a little of the remaining hot water, if needed, to make a thin glaze consistency.

mimicking a framed butterfly collage..these hearts are perfect for upcoming valentine's day... i bought the frame at a yard sale for a quarter..removed the frame..painted it pink and distressed it a little... traced and cut out hearts from leftover scrapbook paper..folded..traced around the glass on card stock..then i was unsure of what to use to attach the hearts to the white card stock.. puff paint? elmer's? glue pen? something tacky..that would dry quickly...hot glue turned out to be the best method...then with my calligraphy felt tip pen i wrote "love..."  if you didn't want to use this project in a frame..it can easily be made into a card for that special valentine.. now..to find a use for that piece of glass...

pop-art

If you google felt crafts..a great multitude of ideas will pop up...lately i've been crafting cell phone, ipod, and eye glass cases.. this pop-tart idea was super fun and easy..with only two basic kinds of stitches.. and i found a use for those mish-mosh of seed beads that have been floating around in my craft bin.. i actually traced around a packet of pop rocks..cut out the felt..sewed the seed beads on first..the strings are hidden between the "icing" and the first layer of "tart"... and then stitched it all together.. the "tweet" eyeglass case is one of three cases i made as Christmas presents...

..and they lived happily ever after... we've been married for six months now..i can hardly believe it! i've been cooking, crafting, and decorating our home.. so..time to start a new blog! hopefully i will keep up with this one better than my wedding blog..thepinkido.blogspot.com ...the photo is actually one of the many craft projects from our wedding..a little bit of felt, diamond pins, leftover flowers, wire vine, tulle, and birds purchased at Michael's made cute little accessories to our gift table at the reception...more photos of our wedding craft projects and some new crafts and cooking projects to come..
